Founded in December 1989, Lormel Narayanan Centre for Exceptional Children began as a social initiative by Indchem research and development laboratory (Indchem Electronics) promoted by the Group of Sanmar in fond of Madame Madhuram Narayanan memory, wife of S K Narayanan, the late Honorary President of group. The centre is a premier institution in India dedicated to a program of early intervention for children with developmental delays. The school admits and provides training to children aged 0-6 years. From three children, school today has so far trained over 4500 children and their families the power.

Inspired by the daycare time tested inherited in India and designed to adapt to the socio-economic conditions and the environment cultural, UPANAYAN which means 'driving' along an early intervention program was developed locally, by the parent organization - Indchem laboratory of research and development, in the context of its corporate social responsibility. This filled the vacuum in the field of disability, particularly to delay mental, the worst and most neglected disability.

The computer assisted teaching program identifies more than 250 skills in children relating to motor skills, cognition, language, etc. It has also been programmed to form children associated with conditions such as epilepsy, autism, cerebral palsy and other disorders.

The Intervention program early Upanayan of the Centre has been included in the curriculum for training educators (in the field of mental disability) laid down by the Indian Council for rehabilitation.

On an average about 150 children are present at the centre on a daily basis and receive training with their parents and guardians. In an effort to improve its training programme, the centre launched a tabulation process, whereby all students data relating to his training and development is fed into the system, thus providing invaluable research material.

A support system of the centre 'The Sanmargam' which means 'Good management' is a project of formalising the ' integration of children with special needs, after having received the intervention in the Intervention program early Upanayan at the Centre. The project aims to reach hand hold and guide the ordinary school teachers for a period of two years. Each year, most children join regular schools, and some continue their education in special schools.

As Priya Rajkumar, said the Director of the centre, "emphasis, in addition to academic requirements, has been on the needs of socialization and communication, so that the transition to mainstream education environment is smooth".
